Stefanie Talman, later known as Stefi Talman, was born on January 3, 1958, in Zurich, Switzerland. Because of her innovative, avant-garde style, she is considered one of the leading designers in the realm of footwear. She had extended artistic and technical training, and her first steps were made through studies at the Zurich University of the Arts, an apprenticeship in shoemaking, and higher studies at Milan’s Ars Sutoria Institute.
In 1975, Talman attended one year of study at the Zurich University of the Arts HGKZ. She then completed a three-year apprenticeship in shoemaking and finished her training with advanced training in cut technique from the Ars Sutoria Institute for Shoe Design in Milan.
In 1979, Talman opened her first atelier in Zurich, introducing innovative designs that gained rapid recognition. Her 1980 collection, with its ZIP half-boot featuring an angular zipper, became an overnight sensation worldwide, dictating the beat of the fashion world. Although this label was discontinued in 1986, Talman continued to impress her magic on the world of fashion with her numerous collaborations with prestigious brands and her successful reopening of her label in 1994.
